Why South Africa’s post-apartheid land reforms plans have stalled



South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa has admitted its land reforms programmes have yet to make any substantial progress. The government is still grappling with how to compensate people, who were forcibly removed from their homes and land after the end of apartheid. The Land Claims Commission was established more than 25 years ago. Since then, it has settled around 80,000 claims. But tens of thousands more cases remain unresolved.
