Vice president Kirchner’s corruption trial divides Argentina
The former president and current vice president of Argentina, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, is on trial, accused of corruption. The verdict is due later this year, but calls by the prosecution to have her jailed have provoked angry responses from her supporters. Kirchner denounces the charges as fiction, but the opposition sees the case as emblematic of government corruption in the country.
