‘Tornado’ sweeps through the British town of Widnes in Cheshire, UK



In unusual news, a mini tornado has swept through the town of Widnes in Cheshire, UK. Houses were damaged and cars smashed in this freak weather incident, as an intense storm hit a housing development in the area around lunchtime today. Though there's been some considerable damage to property and cars, fortunately no injuries have been reported. Though northwest England is perhaps not where you'd immediately think of when it comes to tornadoes, the UK actually sees around 30 every year. The majority cause little-to-no harm, but some can cause considerable damage – particularly when they happen in urban or built-up areas. Though individual tornadoes happen for their own reasons each time and are localised occurrences, extreme weather events are closely linked with climate change.
