Top US General Milley calls Afghanistan a ‘strategic failure’
The top United States military officer has described the end of its 20-year war in Afghanistan as "a strategic failure" and warns the country might be headed for civil war. General Mark Milley and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin testified on Tuesday at Congressional hearings dealing with the chaotic withdrawal of troops and the Taliban takeover last month. The Pentagon is reviewing its actions in Afghanistan but some senators say that is not enough; they want an independent commission to look at what went wrong not just in the end of the mission in Afghanistan but during the entirety of the US's longest war.
