By the mid-1990s, the Taliban had risen to power in Afghanistan. Certain members of the group wanted to destroy the national archive. When some Taliban decided to burn it down, the Taliban head of radio and television took action. He secretly warned employees at Afghan Film to hide their treasured films. Amongst the Taliban of that era, there were also those who cherished the history of their homeland.
