Sri Lanka has declared a state of emergency, just hours after President Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled to the Maldives. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has declared himself acting president. Police have fired tear gas at protesters calling for his resignation. Thousands of people have converged on his offices in Colombo.
