Russian artists are under pressure to denounce the invasion of Ukraine, or face being sacked by cultural institutions in the West. The highly regarded conductor Valery Gergiev has resigned as honorary president of the Edinburgh International Festival in the United Kingdom. This follows the dismissal of other Russians from orchestras in Europe and the United States.
