Philippines’s No 2 Leni Robredo joins race to succeed Duterte
Philippine Vice President Leni Robredo has announced she is running for the top office. Robredo is a human rights lawyer and leader of the opposition. She has been a vocal critic of President Rodrigo Duterte, and his violent crackdown on the illegal drugs trade. Election day will be May 9, 2022, but the contest is already shaping up to be one of the most divisive and bitterly contested in the Phillippines.
