Philippines kicks off three-month presidential election campaign

Election campaigning has officially begun in the Philippines – to pick a successor to President Rodrigo Duterte in May. Those vying for the presidency include the son of a former president, as well as a retired boxing champion. And once again, most of the candidates are using their popularity, family connections, and money to get elected in a country where patronage politics remain rooted in the electoral process.
