Israel’s Netanyahu fires defense minister over judicial overhaul
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has fired his defence minister Yoav Gallant. Gallant made a declaration on Saturday, calling for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to halt the judicial overhaul long enough to more deeply engage in negotiations with opponents, to reach a compromise. Huge public protests against the changes have been ongoing for 12 weeks. A growing number of Israeli politicians have been denouncing the plans to give more powers to the Knesset at the expense of the courts. Akiva Eldar is an Israeli Political Analyst.
