Haiti’s fuel crisis threatens closure of hospitals

In Haiti, the poorest country in the western hemisphere, providing healthcare is difficult even in the best of times. But these are times of crisis. Gangs have blockaded ports, creating a fuel shortage. Dozens of hospitals have warned that they may have to shut their doors in the coming days due to the fuel shortage. That would leave thousands of people in need of medical care with no place to go. UN agencies and Haitian authorities are trying to create a humanitarian corridor to get fuel to hospitals. Unless there is a breakthrough, the consequences may be dire.
