Germany’s new Chancellor Olaf Scholz replaces Angela Merkel as leader
German Social Democrat Olaf Scholz will soon replace Angela Merkel as chancellor, who was the leader of Europe's largest economy for 16 years. He will lead a coalition with the Greens and the liberal Free Democrats (FDP).
His main tasks are tackling the COVID-19 pandemic, moving towards more climate-friendly policies and keeping the budget in check.
