Boston Bruins retire jersey of Willie O’Ree, NHL’s first black player

The US National Hockey League has honoured its first black player, Willie O'Ree. He broke the league's racial barrier in 1958. O’Ree, 86, is recognized in the Hockey Hall of Fame and on Tuesday, his former NHL team – the Boston Bruins – retired his number to honor him as one of their greatest players of all time. But the NHL continues to face accusations of racism. Players and staff are still overwhelmingly white.
