Aussie Arrested For ‘AK-47’ That’s Really Just A Bong

As a budding young journalist, these are the stories my dreams are made of: high-octane car chases, scrambled police helicopters, and a punchline straight out of Hollywood. Here’s the tale of how one Sydney man’s relaxing afternoon took quite the turn…

Known around the world for loving a good time, this is far from the first time that a local Aussie has been caught out trying to enjoy themselves. Here at DMARGE, we’ve been covering the wild antics of Australia’s keenest partiers for some time…

But just when you’ve seen it all, another wildcard emerges, throwing everything you thought you knew about getting loose, getting caught, and the many colourful shapes and sizes of weed paraphernalia straight out the window. This is one such incident:

Yesterday afternoon, an incident in western Sydney caused quite the commotion. A local man, reported to be 50 years old, was spotted on the streets holding what appeared to be an AK-47 assault rifle.

As you’d expect, a number of people quickly called the emergency services to report the situation, prompting a rapid response from police….

Heading to Windsor Road in Rouse Hill at roughly 5.30 pm, police were able to use CCTV footage from nearby establishments – alongside quickly scrambled police helicopters – to search for the armed man.

They eventually tracked down the suspect, first finding his empty car abandoned in the car park of a nearby church. Upon inspecting the car, they quickly found what turned out to be an imitation rifle.

The search continued, ultimately leading to the discovery of the man in a nearby grassland, where he was subsequently arrested and taken to Castle Hill Police Station.

Upon further inspection at the local station, the counterfeit “weapon” was discovered to be a novelty bong, designed to look like the world-famous weapon, causing a number of raised eyebrows and underhand smirks in the suburb and beyond…

The as-yet unidentified man was charged with possession of an unauthorised firearm and intimidation before subsequently being denied bail. He is due to appear before Parramatta Local Court later today.

Sydney stoners, consider this a warning: we’re all for novelty glassware, but if you want to keep living the high life in peace, maybe keep the killer cones away from crowded streets.
