African Union slams ‘wave’ of coups, calls for permanent UNSC seats

The African Union's summit in Addis Ababa has wrapped up with a condemnation of the recent wave of military coups on the continent, and a demand for permanent seats at the UN Security Council to enable better representation. The summit held in Ethiopia, where the government has been fighting a brutal conflict with Tigrayan rebels for more than a year, also led to calls for the host country to announce a ceasefire.
