EU plans to require universal charger for smartphones



The European Union's agreed provisional plans to institute a universal charger connector for smartphones, the USB-C. The EU says that the requirement is an effort to reduce electronic waste, as well as make life cheaper and simpler for Europeans. Apple, whose devices primarily use its custom-made lightning connector, has fiercely opposed the idea.
