John Lee elected as Hong Kong’s next chief executive



A former security chief who led a crackdown on pro-democracy protesters is Hong Kong's new leader. John Lee was chosen by an election committee of about 1,500 members, who had been vetted by Beijing to ensure their loyalty to China’s government. The European Union's foreign policy chief says the appointment violates democratic norms.
