Fumio Kishida set to become Japan prime minister after party vote
Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party has picked its new leader. Fumio Kishida will replace Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga. The former foreign minister took the helm after a runoff with cabinet minister, Taro Kono. Suga is stepping down after just a year in office. He has been facing strong criticism over his handling of the pandemic and the cost of the Olympics.
