Austria’s COVID vaccine law comes into effect amid protests

Austria has become the first country in Europe to make COVID vaccination compulsory for adults. One million people have refused to be inoculated. The country's 75 percent vaccination rate is one of the lowest in Europe. It is a controversial policy, with some worrying that the mandate will only increase polarisation in society. Tens of thousands of Austrians have demonstrated every weekend against COVID restrictions and compulsory vaccination.
