US guaranteed minimum income: Senate fails to renew monthly child tax credit



Most American families have to survive with less money this year after the US Senate failed to renew the “Child Tax Credit". These monthly cash injections were praised for sharply reducing child poverty, while critics argued they disincentivised people from seeking jobs. The programme was part of US experimentation with a guaranteed minimum income and has tested ideas that are new to the United States, but are considered fairly common in Europe and Canada.
