Typhoon Gaemi aftermath: Taiwan recovers with improved defences

Taiwan has experienced at least ten deaths and hundreds of injuries after Typhoon Gaemi hit the northeast end of the island last week. The capital, Taipei, has recovered quickly due to improved natural disaster prevention measures implemented after past typhoons. The typhoon caused significant agricultural and fishery losses estimated at over $50 million. The city has invested in flood gates, raised levees, and concave green spaces to manage rainwater. Real-time forecasting and community training programs in emergency response have also contributed to better preparedness and resilience against such disasters.
