‘Since the ceasefire, nothing is coming to the hospital’: Al-Shifa doctor

Marwan Abu Sada, the chief surgeon at al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, says a large number of patients are still unable to access healthcare, despite the truce. Speaking to Al Jazeera, the doctor emphasised that the greatest need was fuel. “Since the ceasefire, nothing is coming to the hospital,” he said. “I think most of the medical aid goes to the southern hospitals, [but] nothing is coming to the northern areas, just food and water and other stuff”. Despite the problems, Abu Sada said doctors were determined to help patients. “Operating theatres [are] still not ready, and all departments not ready to admit newcomers, but still we are preparing the ground to receive more and more patients”. Abu Sada added that repairs are needed for oxygen generators that were damaged during the Israeli army’s raid on al-Shifa Hospital earlier this month.
