Video footage shared by the Norwegian Polar Institute depicts a Boeing 787 aircraft touching down on Antarctica's icecap, marking, according to the institute, the first time a large aircraft has landed in the region. On board the plane were 45 passengers and 12 tons of research equipment. The aircraft made its landing in Queen Maud Land, Antarctica, where the 3,000-meter-long "Troll" airstrip, etched directly into the ice, is situated. The Norwegian Polar Institute has indicated that this event paves the way for broader transportation possibilities in the area.
