Cargo ship broke into two and runs aground off Turkey during violent storms, all crew members safe
Severe storms in northwestern Turkey led to significant damage and the breakup of the Cameroon-flagged cargo ship Pallada, which ran aground off Eregli in heavy weather. The ship broke in two amid 5-meter waves, but all 13 crew members were rescued safely. Turkey’s Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya inspected the site. Additionally, a Turkish-flagged cargo ship, Kafkametler, sank off the Black Sea coast, with one crew member's body recovered and 11 others missing. The ship collided with a breakwater and sank near Eregli. In southeastern Turkey, floods caused by the storms killed four people, including a mother and two children, with another child missing and 50 injured. Neighboring Bulgaria also experienced disruptions due to gale-force winds and heavy rain, leading to two deaths and a state of emergency in Varna. Footage filmed by Taha Oruc.
