UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has reiterated his call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Speaking alongside the Egyptian foreign minister in Cairo, Guterres urged the swift delivery of humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian enclave and for Hamas to release captives taken during its attack on Israel on October 7. “I am in the Middle East on a humanitarian mission at a moment of profound crisis – a crisis unlike any the region has seen in decades,” he said.
