41 workers rescued after two weeks trapped into collapsed construction site of a tunnel in India
In India, a successful rescue operation freed all 41 construction workers trapped for over two weeks in a collapsed mountain tunnel in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. The rescue, which captured national attention, involved pulling the workers through a passageway made of welded pipes. The workers had been trapped since November 12 due to a landslide that caused a section of the 4.5-kilometer tunnel to collapse. They survived on food and oxygen delivered through steel pipes. Upon their rescue, the workers were greeted with cheers, jubilation, and garlands by officials, rescuers, and relatives. They each underwent initial health checkups at a medical camp set up inside the tunnel.
