2 new released Thai hostages welcomed with emotion from compatriots previously freed by Hamas

Two Thai nationals, recently released by Hamas, received a warm welcome from their compatriots and Thailand's Foreign Minister upon their arrival at an Israeli medical center. The emotional reunion, captured in a video by the Thai Foreign Ministry, featured applause and hugs. Thailand's Foreign Minister Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara, present to facilitate the return of the first group of former hostages to Bangkok, expressed relief at their safety and overall good health, despite some minor injuries. A group of 17, including these individuals, is scheduled to arrive in Bangkok on Thursday, just after noon local time. The latest exchange of hostages held by Hamas militants for Palestinians imprisoned by Israel occurred on Tuesday evening, aligning with a ceasefire agreement. This swap involved ten Israeli hostages, including two Thai nationals, nine women, and a 17-year-old girl, all handed over to the Red Cross in Gaza and then returned to Israeli territory. Shortly after, Israel released 30 Palestinian prisoners. The ceasefire between Israel and Hamas has been extended until Wednesday, allowing for the possibility of more exchanges. Since Friday, Hamas has released 81 hostages, mostly Israelis, while Israel has freed 180 Palestinian prisoners. The prolonged ceasefire could facilitate increased aid into Gaza, which has suffered extensive damage and displacement of its 2.3 million residents due to Israeli siege and bombardment. Israel maintains its objective to dismantle Hamas' military capabilities and end its 16-year rule in Gaza, potentially requiring an expansion of its ground offensive. Hamas' October 7 attack in southern Israel, which captured approximately 240 hostages, marked the beginning of the current conflict. According to the Hamas-controlled Health Ministry in Gaza, over 13,300 Palestinians have been killed since the war started, while around 1,200 fatalities have been reported in Israel, mostly during Hamas' initial incursion.
